Rotary Club of Chicagoland Lithuanians needs new/used wheelchairs and walkers NOW!
The Rotary Club of Chicagoland Lithuanians is asking for all clubs in D6450 to gather up — new, used or unneeded walkers, and adult or kid sized wheelchairs — for the thousands of innocent Ukrainian citizens who have been maimed & injured, and who are now unable to walk and carry on a normal life.

Please bring this equipment to the Lithuanian World Center, 14911 127th Street, Lemont, IL 60439, (773) 828-7100.  For more info, contact Sandra Scedrina at (773) 704-0093.

District 6450 Responds to New York State Polio Report:  Call to Action
Global Polio eradication is Rotary’s No. 1 priority. We were first with the vision of a polio-free world, which has led to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) with the WHO, CDC, UNICEF, Gates Foundation and GAVI, Global Vaccine Alliance.

On July 21 we heard the concerning news of a case of paralytic polio in an unvaccinated individual in Rockland County, New York.

Initial sequencing indicates it was a case of type 2 vaccine-derived poliovirus in an unvaccinated young adult. The victim is being treated and is no longer contagious.

As we have said for decades, polio is just a plane ride away, and now it has emerged in the US!

What We in District 6450 Can Do to END POLIO
  1. Last year we launched the District 6450 Polio Plus Society to support the GPEI strategy to END POLIO by 2026. Today, we urge all members of District 6450 to join the Polio Plus Society! We will have updated joining information on the District website by August 15, with a link in the next issue of the District eNewsletter. Donations will be matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation. Your $100 donation will provide vaccinations for 99 children!

  2. Please talk about Rotary’s signature project to END POLIO at your Club meetings, and with your Rotaract and Interact Clubs. Consider how you can raise awareness of the importance of childhood vaccination for polio in our local communities and sister communities that you work with around the world.
For more info, please contact Polio Plus Chair Mary Dankowski, marydankowski@ameritech.net.
