Welcome to October! Community Economic and Development Month!
Rotarians make extraordinary things happen in their communities and globally. Rotary members help to grow local economies and provide sustainable solutions to poverty. We obtain grants through the Rotary Foundation to fund projects that create opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive. Is your club engaged in community economic development at home or abroad? Check out what you can do on My Rotary.
As I have shared with many of you on my club visits, October 11 is International Day of the Girl: Plan a hands-on project focusing on girl empowerment on that day. There are many action opportunities and many groups and organizations to work with on clean water projects with sanitary facilities in schools, daysforgirls.org, support girls in crisis, such as human trafficking, mentoring girls in STEM programs, investing in girls with scholarships, helping a new mom, using your voice to encourage girls in your life. I urge you to plan a project and post it on the Rotary Showcase.
24 October – World Polio Day. What is your club planning for 24 October – World Polio Day? I invite you to join Rotarians all over the world on this day. One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio. It is sad to note that only 1 in 10 Rotarians donate to End Polio! If all you plan to do is to donate on the 24th of October, you may visit District 6450 website and Join the Rotary District 6450 Polio Plus Society.
Dates and locations for Membership Orientation will be announced soon. Please register immediately so we can adequately accommodate everyone who is invited and those who may be interested. The invitation is for people who joined Rotary in the last five years; however, I have been approached by people who have been members longer than that about attending. All are welcome.
I urge you to continue to track your service hours and share a showcase of your work with Rotary and your community.

Good news! Environmental matching grant applications are once again being accepted for the Rotary year 22-23. These grants are available in amounts between $50 to $200 to be matched by the club for earth-related projects. While we have promoted the protection of pollinators these past two years, the grant can be used for any project that protects, enhances, or renews our environment.
