Rotary District News

Vol. 1, Edition 20 - November 1, 2022

Information Every Club in District 6450 Can Use

Comments from Governor Ade

November is The Rotary Foundation Month!

For 14 consecutive years, Charity Navigator has given The Rotary Foundation a 4-star rating! The 4-star rating means that you can give with confidence to The Rotary Foundation with the assurance that your contribution supports the foundation's mission. The Rotary Foundation grants promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, sustain mothers and children, improve education, and strengthen local economies. Your Club Foundation Chair will share your club's annual goals and the efficacy of The Rotary Foundation during this month as you consider your annual giving.

On October 12, 2022, the Interact Club of Manteno High School received its charter certificate from Rotary International. Congratulations and best wishes to the Rotary Club of Manteno for sponsoring the Interact Club and supporting the youth in their community.

We received a request to partner for an annual 5,000 toy Christmas Toy Giveaway. Imagine Santa's village on the Westside of Chicago, with hot cocoa stands, a play area, free food, a Christmas train, etc. The event attracts news coverage, and thousands of people participate.

You may screen a video of last year's event here: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/west-garfield-park-toy-giveaway/

Rotary Clubs would help with either buying/gathering toys (ideally need about 1,500-2,000 toys) or helping cover the food trucks for 2,500 people. Volunteers are needed. The Christmas Miracle on the Westside event is scheduled for December 23. Interested clubs should contact me no later than November 7.

The district has many openings on our various committees. Serving on committees is an opportunity for you to engage in Rotary. First, visit the district website to find out the roles and responsibilities of the various committees, then sign up.

I urge you to continue to track your service hours and share a showcase of your work with Rotary and your community.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Ade Onayemi
