Rotary District News

*************************************************

You may have already heard that the Rotary float in the 2020 Rose Parade was the Winner of the Tournament Volunteer Award for the Most Outstanding Floral Presentation of the Rose Parade.  The theme of the float was “Hope Connects the World”.  With over 70 million viewers this float puts Rotary and its works on the world stage.  Entirely supported by individual donations, every element of the float is managed by the volunteers who make up the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee.  I am excited to report that I will be part of that committee and a volunteer decorator on the float for 2021.  If you have always wanted to be part of this event, please let me know.  Perhaps we might assemble a District 6450 team to send out to Pasadena and represent the Birthplace of Rotary.  If you would like more information about the RRPF go to their website:  click here for photos and more information.

On February 15th, the District will, for the third time, host empowerLEADERS. This is a morning of leadership, mentorship and scholarship for local high school seniors, college students and young professionals.  Steven Smutny and his team are working on sponsors, recruiting students and finalizing plans for the event.  Please check out the web site:   empowerLEADERS  and learn more about it.  If you would like to play a role in this leadership event, please contact Steven via email at:  steven@dearbornarchitects.com.

Sign up now.  Online at: Annual District Conference - 4/24-26/2020

ROTARIANS, DO YOU KNOW...??
On May 4, 1987 in a 7-0 decision, the United States
Supreme Court ruled against Rotary International.
It agreed with the Rotary Club of Duarte, California
that RI could NOT revoke a club's charter merely for
admitting women. The RI Board agreed to not enforce
male-only membership recruitments in any country
whose law required equal treatment of men and women.
