District Volunteer Opportunity Bed Build - Sleep in Heavenly Peace June 18, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
The District 6450 Community Service Committee is pleased to announce that we are hosting a Bed Build for Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Tinley Park on June 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. What is a Bed Build you ask? Here is great information on Sleep in Heavenly Peace:
Sleep in heavenly peace or SHP as it is often abbreviated is a 501 C3 nonprofit organization made up 100% of volunteers. Every penny we raise goes directly towards the expenses needed to build more beds for children in need ages 3-17. We service victims of fire, flooding, domestic abuse relocation, financial struggles and many more. We always say there are so many reasons that can lead to the need for a bed and SHP is here to help. Child “Bedlessness” is not a real word but it is definitely a real problem.
There is no experience needed to step in and help their core volunteers during a community Bed Build event. If you or your club are interested in volunteering, please contact Michelle Balog at 815-744-7737 or mbalog@numarkcu.org.
We are also looking for clubs to sponsor the event to help with the purchase of materials. You can donate online to Oak Forest SHP with the link below or with a check made payable to Sleep In Heavenly Peace with Oak Forest Chapter in the memo. Checks can be brought to the bed build event.
Dave King from the Oak Forest Chapter has a wealth of knowledge on SHP, and he is happy to share or present to your club. We are also including a video from a recent event so that you can see a bed build in action. Dave can be contacted at 708-921-8551or Dave.King@shpbeds.org.

Rotary Friendship Exchange is Back! Believe it or not, Rotarians are moving around the world again and we here in District 6450 have an opportunity to help herald back in this dimension of Rotary fellowship. We have been asked to host a group of Rotarians from District 9125 (based out of Abuja, Nigeria) who will be attending the International Convention in Houston June 4th - 8th. Tentatively, there are going to be 15 people in total and they are tentatively planning to be in our District from May 28th - June 3rd.
What is needed first and foremost is for Rotarians to step up and open their homes to host one or two of the visiting Rotarians. Hosting would include providing comfortable lodging, some meals and providing transportation to and from group meet-up points for daily activities. Hosts are not limited to these things and often involve their guests in activities taking place in their households and communities. As a result, hosts and guests from Rotary Friendship Exchanges often become life-long friends, if not "unofficial" members of the family and possibly business associates.
If you think that you might be interested in serving as a host for our Nigerian guests before the Convention, please don't hesitate to reach out to Past District Governor and District Rotary Friendship Exchange Chair Osei David Andrews-Hutchinson either via email or phone as soon as possible, dg6450osei@gmail.com or via phone at (773) 562-3506.
