At a recent club meeting, Joliet Rotarians listened as Hester Bury, director of the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) spoke about their mission to provide nutritious food to those in need, through their work and with 600 partner agencies in 13 Northern Illinois counties.

According to Bury, NIFB acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes approximately 3 million pounds of donated, government and purchased food on a monthly basis. They work through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites. Providing food for an estimated 502,400 individuals annually and about 61,600 on a weekly basis.
