Seven members of the Joliet Rotary Club attended the 100th anniversary celebration of the Kankakee Rotary Club on Thurs. June 25 at the Kankakee Country Club. Rotary International Director Jennifer Jones was the guest speaker. She outlined the strategic focus for the next year of Rotary. “Our goals are to join leaders, exchange ideas, and to take action,” Jones said. “Rotary is the greatest story never told. We need to change that and let others know about the good work we do.”
Jones congratulated Kankakee Rotary Club President Norm Grimsley and President Elect Aaron Dunnill are reaching some an important milestone and led the audience in singing “Happy Birthday” to the club. Grimsley acknowledged the Joliet Rotary Club’s support over the last century. Club President Bret Mitchell presented a $200 donation to the Kankakee Club. The Joliet Rotary Club sponsored the founding of the Kankakee club. “This is $100 for the first 100 years and a $100 for the next 100 years,” he said. “We wish you continued success in the future.”
Joliet Rotarians in attendance included Assistant District Governor Jane Hopkins, Diane Habiger, Mark Griglione, Bruce Konzelman, Cheryl McCarthy, Bret Mitchell, Anastasia Tuskey, and Dan Vera. “It is always good when local Rotary clubs come together to support each other,” said Mark Griglione, president-elect. “I was proud the Joliet club was on hand to commemorate this event with Kankakee.”
Please save the date of Wednesday, July 29th on your calendars! On this date we will be enjoying a summer evening gathering for Rotarians from 5:30pm until 8:00pm (or later). Ed Dollinger has graciously offered to host the event at his backyard pool. The Rotary Board thanks Ed for sharing his home with us for the evening. Please come and enjoy a summer evening of Joliet Rotary Fellowship. Food and drinks will be provided by Joliet Rotary. More information will follow in the coming weeks.
