Project Guidelines
The following guidelines must be met:
  • Each project must be sponsored by a member of the Joliet Rotary Club.  If the project is selected, that member, along with a representative of the organization or group, shall monitor the progress and report on the implementation.
  • The project must be a long term benefit for the Joliet Community and will be used for capital expenditures only (bricks/mortar, equipment) not for operation or program support.
  • The specific project must be clearly identified including the Rotary Club of Joliet recognition plan.
  • The project will be funded up to $30,000.  These funds are available as a result of the Annual Rotary Raffle Fundraising Event.  Each year the anticipated dollar amount will be determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Bids or estimates from professionals for all work and supplies should be submitted with each application.
  • The Rotary Member sponsoring the project should return the application and supporting documentation to Past President Dave Thornton, or current President Bret Mitchell by Tuesday, March 3, 2015.
January's Rotary Theme: Rotary Awareness Month

As we begin 2015, take the time to reflect on Rotary. Hopefully, you are aware what a fantastic organization you are a part of and what Rotary means locally and internationally.  As a refresher, we offer the following:  in February, Rotary will celebrate its 110th birthday; there are over 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide; there are over 34,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries; Rotary has helped all but eradicate polio; the Group Study Exchange program has helped more than 70,000 young professionals from 106 countries explore their career fields; and the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars program has helped more than 41,000 students from 130 countries study abroad.  Rotarians make a difference!

Celebrate Rotary Awareness Month by training members on Rotary history, programs, or how to raise awareness of your club’s projects among your community. Or, ask members to share a personal story or experience that they have had because of Rotary. Every Rotarian has a Rotary story that can be educational and inspiring. The beginning of a new year is a good opportunity to renew inspiration for the rest of the Rotary year.

District Governor Designate Announced

At their December meeting, the 6450 Board of Directors ratified the Governor Nominating Committee’s recommendation for District Governor Designee. Oak Park-River Forest Rotarian Scott McAdam will be our District Governor in club year 2017-2018.

A native of Oak Park, IL, Scott has been an OPRF Rotarian since 1995. A Paul Harris Fellow (+3) and a Foundation Sustaining Member, Scott has been active in his club and on its board in many capacities – including serving as President in 2013-2014. Scott and his brother, Rob, own and operate McAdam Landscaping, a landscape company with four divisions and 85-90 employees during peak season. They have established a reputation as a company of integrity, doing quality work and standing behind their products and services. Scott and Rob are also partners in Chicago Snow and Landscape Partners (CSLP) provides regional landscape and snow removal services for the entire Chicago metro area.

Professionally, Scott is very involved in the landscape industry. He has served on the Horticulture Advisory Board for the University of Illinois, the board of the Illinois Turfgrass Foundation, The Mid America Horticulture Trade Show, The Chicago Flower and Garden Show, and was president of both the Landscape Division of the American Nursery and Landscape Association and the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Scott was instrumental in establishing the Fund for Excellence at the university to provide discretionary monies for the horticulture department to enhance the student experience. And, this February the Illinois Green Industry Association will recognize Scott for his numerous contributions to his industry.

Outside of his profession, Scott served on the board of the Des Plaines Valley Council Boy Scouts of America for 18 years. A former Scout, Scott has also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In 2006, Oak Park River Forest High School awarded Scott the Tradition of Excellence Award.

Scott and his wife, Veronika reside in Lemont and have two adult children: W. Scott, Jr. and Amanda. They are all proud Paul Harris Fellows and share Scott’s love of Rotary and Service Above Self. We congratulate Scott and thank him and his family for their commitment to Rotary and to our District!
