Mark Carlson has been umpiring in the major leagues since 1999.

The Joliet West graduate has enjoyed plum assignments. He worked the 2003 All-Star Game, a 2007 National League Division Series, 2011 and 2012 American League Division Series and the 2013 and 2014 National League Championship Series.He began the 2014 season umpiring the opening series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks in Sydney, Australia.

In 2015, Carlson was in St. Louis and at Wrigley Field for the NL Division Series between the Cardinals and Cubs. He was the home-plate umpire for Game 4 at Wrigley, where the Cubs ended it with their third straight victory. Carlson also worked as one of seven umpires for the 2105 World Series between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals.
